Basics Of Best Shoulder Pads

By Marjorie Vargas

There are several producers of best shoulder pads in the market these days. Shoulder pads refer to pieces of protective devices applied in many contact sports like hockey, lacrosse, American football, and Canadian football. They can be utilized by both female and male players. They appear in a broad variety of designs to fit the purpose they are made for.

These devices are made of shock absorbing materials and a hard plastic exterior cover. The whole thing consists of different disjoint constituents which are connected together by strings or rivets. The rivets may be tied to regulate the size since well fitting pads are very crucial during the games. The exact measurements of adult players have to be taken before the device is designed to achieve fitness.

The kind of pad a player uses relies on the position they assume in the field during a game. Some positions which need that one to be more protected than others. Positions like quarterbacks which require great flexibility and speed require lightweight devices. Those meant for linemen are manufactured with less epaulets and/or flaps to reduce the possibility of being held by opposition players.

Players are allowed the chance to choose whether they want elastic straps or vinyl buckles. Researchers have invented a way of ventilating the pad so as to regulate the body temperature of the player during a match. All points on the pad must be checked to guarantee proper fit. Maintenance during a competition consists of monthly check and replacement of worn out parts. A related piece of safety equipment is a rib protector. It connects to the shoulder pad and is meant to protect the back, stomach, and ribs.

Main parts on these pieces of equipment include foam padding, accessory slots, t-hook, and the shell. Shells are the outmost coating which surrounds all the other components. Each part has its own shell. The purpose of shells is absorbing the impact that results from a clash among players. They are composed of high density polyethylene plastic. Since the shell experiences frequent impact, it is wears out fast making them need frequent replacement.

Foam padding remains next to the body of a player. It is basically a liner. Dual density foams have two layers, the inner layer and an outer layer. The inner section offers protection which results from friction between the shell and the foam. The outer layer is thicker for taking up the impact. Although shells safeguard the body from impact, they push on the body with a lot of pressure. Therefore, foams become helpful in absorbing excess impact.

T-hooks are designed to fit into slits made on the front surface of the pad. Each side has at least one t-hook. T-hooks are called so because of their shape which looks like the letter T. Their major purpose is providing stability to the pad. Well seated t-hooks with the correct connection straps stop any movement in the device during play.

Best shoulder pads comprise of accessory slots for accommodating additional equipment. Such extra accessories may include chest protectors, neck rolls, and back plates. Slots are situated all over the equipment for ease of use.
