Bicycling For Commuting In New York City

By Rob Sutter

New York City is the kind of place which I have mixed feelings about. I believe that traveling to said city can be something of a chore and the roads are ones which you have to be absolutely alert when traveling along. However, I am aware of just how many beautiful areas of the city exist and these are the ones which deserve to have attention placed on them. Bicycling for commuting seems to be prevalent in these areas, especially now with more efforts being done.

For those who have ever been to New York City, you probably know all about how people move from place to place. It's clear that the aspect of travel is broad, seeing as how cars and bicycles alike can be employed. However, I'd like to think that the latter option is more commonly seen and I think that it's somewhat because of how crowded the city environment can be. You want to be able to move around carefully while arriving at your destination in a timely fashion.

According to Crain's New York Business, it seems like a new bike-share program is set to hit the city this coming Memorial Day Weekend. Citi Bake will be the name of said program and it has been announced that it will officially surface on May 27th. People who have signed up by the 17th will be able to utilize the system during its first week for an annual membership fee of $95. The amount of support that it has been given is, to say the least, substantial.

I think that it's clear how New York feels about bicycling for commuting, considering the level of support that has been given to it. The article went into detail about such support, saying that more than 8,000 individuals in the city decided to take it upon themselves to back the program. This has definitely proven to be one of the better ways to get around, as companies the likes of Linus Bike can tell you. However, what are the exact reasons why these programs have become increasingly more common?

I believe the idea of health stands as one reason why these programs have gained so much support. Bicycling for commuting stands as a great method of exercise because of how health is heightened. People may not understand that, as healthy as you eat, the physical activity is something that has to be done alongside it. It may take some effort but I strongly believe that the work put into it day after day is going to show in the results that you will attain later on.
