Camping Dishes That Are Cheap And Easy To Prepare

By Elaine Kingson

Barbecuing a gourmet meal at your campsite can be a great deal of fun, not to mention delicious. Nonetheless, often we are restricted by time, cash or cargo area. That is where low-cost and simple car camping meals are handy.

You do not always have to forgo a warm, cooked meal to inexpensive food that is simple to prepare. With a portable burner, you can still enjoy hot cup of java in the morning, cook warm breakfasts, make hearty stews and plenty more.

A portable burner costs less than twenty bucks plus a small propane tank will cost a few dollars. Besides being less costly than a barbecue, stove or portable grill - this food preparation method takes up virtual no space in your car. They are also ideal for backpacking trips.

Assuming that you don't want to bring food that you need to store in an ice chest, below are some ideas for camping meals that are easy, cheap and healthy.

Noodles

Get yourself a large stew pot, and you can heat water for all sorts of noodles. Pasta is inexpensive, uses up virtually no space and does not need to be cooled. Add a jar of pasta sauce, and you have a warm, filling meal. Leftovers also make a wonderful, quick lunch.

Chili

Get a couple of cans of chili and heat them in your kettle. Numerous products already have flavorings included, so this means less work for you without needing to give up taste. Once again, no refrigeration required, and of course canned food keeps for a long time. You can even include your chili to your pasta meal above.

Oatmeal

There is absolutely nothing like a warm meal in the morning when you are camping, and oatmeal is cheap and uses up really little space. You can make use of the exact same pot you utilized for the pasta and the chili and cook some oats for a couple of minutes with some cinnamon or brown sugar. For a heartier meal, you can even add some trail mix or dried fruit, which are fantastic snacks to bring on a camping trip anyway.

Rice

Although it takes longer to prepare than pasta, rice is a nice alternative, since it is compact, inexpensive and it doesn't have to be cooled in its dry state. Rice goes well with any sort of meat, fish or vegetable, but I even love it plain with some pizza seasoning.

Tuna in a Can

Canned tuna is a cheap, easy and a quick source of healthy protein. Add it to rice, sandwiches, tortilla chips or eat it plain out of the can. Little serving containers are also a nice perk.

Potatoes

This veggie may take up more space, but it is simple to carry, doesn't need refrigeration and is a cheap healthy carbohydrate. You may choose baked potatoes or those cooked in a skillet vs boiled potatoes, but no matter what type of cooking equipment you have, know that you have meal options.

Peanut Butter

We can not forget peanut butter. It is quick and easy and a great source of protein also. If you are searching for an option to sandwich bread, why not try crackers or rice cakes?

There are plenty more food options to come up with camping meals, but these staples are very versatile and help you create a significant number of meals simply by changing your spices or sauce.
