Visiting Philadelphia Museums

Philadelphia has for some time been a beacon of culture and commerce in the U. S. for over two hundred years. Today it celebrates its history with museums and attractions for the whole family to enjoy. With a range of landmarks in Philadelphia having been a center point of American history, museums in Philadelphia continue to contribute to the historical culture and fine arts in Philly.

The Franklin Institute

The Franklin Institute, this great institution has put on exhibit both the natural and technological sciences in our world for over the last 500 years. At the moment, the Franklin Institute is showing exhibitions pertaining to science in modern pop culture including forensic sciences at its exhibition. Mummies are presently on display at the institute, on loan from other museums. Mummies are always a fun experience for children who are interested in find out more about Egypt. IMAX productions can also be watched at The Franklin Institute for the entertainment of the public. The Franklin Institute is one of the top museums in Philadelphia.

National Constitution Center Museum

The National Constitution Center is unique among Philadelphia museums, and is one of a kind in the world in that it focuses on the US Constitution. Other exhibits include documents and devices from the International Spy Museum regarding the struggle of keeping civil liberties. Another exhibit tells the tale of the people who fought in World War Two and the legacy of the plight for the ideals of freedom. Also in this museum is the Kimmel Theater, which plays a multi media production on the history of the Constitution.

University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archeology & Anthropology

University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archeology & Anthropology has made a museum in the guts of University City and is one of the best Museums of Archeology internationally. There are artifacts from ancient Egypt, antiquity and other periods in world history that are proudly displayed in this museum. The key exhibit is the Egyptian Sphinx, which weighs roughly 12 tons and is over three thousand years in age.

Philadelphia Museum of Art

Philadelphia Museum of Art contains pieces of art from artists like Degas, Van Gogh, Cezzane and others. The museum is an apex of cultural arts with permanent exhibits and exhibits that come in annually. Also a gem is a reconstructed Hindu Temple meticulously transported from India. Medieval armour is also displayed here in a spot of precedence with paintings of nineteenth century Impressionists. All the artworks in the museum's collection are well worth seeing for folks visiting Philadelphia.

Eastern State Penitentiary

With its old Gothic design and almost utterly spoiled interiors, the Eastern State Prison has a long and sordid history. Back in the early nineteenth century the belief in reformation was popular notably by the Quakers that resided near Philadelphia at that era. However , the result of the near isolation and continual work schedules it changed into a breeding ground for insanity. By the twentieth century Eastern State Penitentiary had become a prison for perpetrators like Al Capone. After being shut down, rumors began that the 11 acre site is haunted. Guided tours are now available, with the focus on the paranormal.
