Indeed if a child keeps attending they will learn the importance of self discipline. There is also the fact that it improves fitness and this in turn can improve concentration at school. While grading and getting higher belts can improve their self confidence a good teacher will ensure that the act of working on a technique and self development is equally rewarding.

These benefits are also applicable to adults as well. There is also the fact that as adults it can be easy to forget social commitments outside of work. Attending a karate class is an effective way of meeting new people and enlarging your social circle.

When you attend a session for the first time you need to be prepared. Eat a snack around an hour before the session but nothing too heavy as this will make it harder. Wear loose clothing and make sure you have a drink with you.
