By Brandie Montgomery

The regulations governing the proper attire for players such as appropriate volleyball apparel for women needs to be followed for the game to proceed smoothly. These regulations are set by governing bodies in the local and international scene. Sports organizations usually use the rules set by the Olympic committee as the basis. Necessary alterations are made to fit the guidelines in the actual setting but the goal remains the same.

There are several concerns raised regarding the attire of women players. This led to modifications of the laws that provide more options with regards to the choice of the attire. However, because of the comfort and ease of movement that it provides, most women still choose to wear the bikini.

The official regulations provide athletes to choose from shorts or bathing suit bottoms for their uniform. They can also choose from a tank top or jersey for the upper part of the garment. At present, bikini tops are also permitted as official uniform of the participants. The participants should consider the rules given by local counterparts in choosing the appropriate uniform set.

Since the game is held inside a sand court, there is no footgear required of the players. If there are special cases that require the necessity of foot protection, the permission of the game official is needed. Playing barefoot in sand is considered a benefit since the athletes can achieve better footing and succeeds in the execution of plays.

The referee is the only game official that has the final say if there are rules that need reconsideration. The safety of the contestants as well as the practice of fairness in a game is considered before a decision is made. If the referee permits it, the athletes can change outfits halfway through the game or wear foot protection such as suitable shoes or socks.

Ground rules for international competitions are much the same as in the local setting. All teams are required to wear matching uniforms to avoid confusion. Official tournaments also calls for the uniforms to be clean to upheld the integrity of the game.

Players are also required to wear numbers visible in the back and front of their official attire. The number one and number two should be placed conspicuously for easy identification. It can be placed in the shorts of the athletes if there is no adequate area on the uniform top.

The colors of the player numbers should contrast with the color of the outfit. It should also be large enough for officials to read even from afar. The official dimension requirement for numbering the shirts, tops, shorts, or bikini is 3.94 inches tall and 0.60 inches wide.

If the basic rules regarding proper attire is not followed, the players are banned from entering the sand court and the game may be forfeit if no remedies are in place. Additional apparel can also be used if it does not pose any harm to any of the participants. These additions include sweat bands and sunglasses athletes wore together with the authorized volleyball apparel for women.
