Necessary Clothing And Equipment For Motorcycle Racing

By Sam France

A motorcycle is an extremely fun vehicle. But it's also a potentially dangerous one. It's important to make sure that you cover all of your bases when it comes to getting the safety equipment that you need for riding a bike. It's really not optional to skimp on any of the gear, for a few different reasons.

You need to realize we are talking about your life. Wearing an uncomfortable or poorly made piece of clothing just to save a few dollars here is not advisable here, because you could be taking unnecessary chances. You will need all the safety gear possible. If you do not have enough of this gear, you risk leaving part of your body unprotected, which defeats the purpose for wearing safety gear to begin with, while on your motorcycle.

Say you leave an opening in your protective gear around the midsection of your body, this skin could in turn suffer scrapes during a crash or fall. This could even lead to worse damage such as broke ribs, even when all other areas of your body are covered.

Your equipment should include such things as a jacket, knee braces, a brace for the back, chest protection, boots, and of course, a helmet. If you can at all afford it, buy gear that is made from Kevlar. Falling from your bike and making contact with the road or other objects at high speeds in the process is almost as bad as getting shot, and Kevlar was originally used to protect people from gunshots. It is very important that you protect your body from scraped or punctured by anything while riding your bike.

In addition, it is imperative to provide for your joints. This is why knee and elbow protection are also among the necessities. These items are just as important as a motorcycle jackets and helmets are. Joints are vulnerable spots for injury during a fall or crash, and could even break. This means it is quite important to provide protection to them with the right protective gear.

A full length motorcycle helmet is also quite important. It's important to note that this is different then simply getting a "skull cap," which is all that's required in many states. A full motorcycle helmet covers your entire head and face, often with a flip up for exposing your eyes when necessary. But protecting every part of your head is critical.

The last piece of important equipment we will talk about is a motorcycle stand. A stand will allow your bike to stand on its own at important moments or for storage. It should be sturdy enough to hold the full weight of the bike without it toppling over on you as you work on it. The bike weighs a lot, and if it fell on you, it could hurt you badly. The bike could also be damaged. This is why it is so imperative that the stand your get holds the bike securely, and is built for the weight of your particular model of motorcycle.
