Remarkable Innovations For The New Yachts Of 2013

By Aaron Linebarger

Yacht Columbus Sport Hybrid 40m: The latest reports from the Palumbo Shipyard in Naples, Italy demonstrate that the 40m Columbus Sport Hybrid Project is progressing at a rate of knots. With the all-aluminum hull and superstructures now all but complete, the focus of attention is turning toward the interior fit out, conceived by Hot Lab Yacht & Design in Milan in conjunction with the shipyard and owner.

Yacht Dubois 101m Sloop: Built entirely out of aluminum, Design 380 is 400-tonnes lighter than she would be if built from steel, even when the necessary ballast is added. Her mast and all attendant spars and rigging will be built in carbon fibre and innovative sail-handling solutions will require a total crew of just 22. Josep Juanpere Miret of GCA Arquitectes Associats, a Barcelona-based studio which has designed a number of hotels, corporate spaces, and restaurants, created the yacht's interior designs.

Yacht Columbus Sport Hybrid 40m: In line with the green theme of the yacht, all the woods selected for the Columbus Sport Hybrid 40m are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified to ensure eco-sustainability while the leather, selected from a by-product of the meat industry, is treated with a special non-toxic water painting process. With further details emerging of the interior layout, we can see a fully equipped bar serving the cockpit and salon on the main deck, while the forward portion of the salon features a dining area with eight covers.

Yacht Dubois 101m Sloop: In the bow, the yacht's 22 crewmembers will be accommodated in 18 en-suite cabins. An impressive main salon will be located on the main deck, with the superstructure sporting a fetching hardtop. Although a shipyard had not yet been selected at the time of writing, construction was due to begin the second quarter of 2013. Dubois has indicated construction will take approximately two and a half years once a build contract is signed.

Yacht Columbus Sport Hybrid 40m: On the upper deck the relaxing atmosphere is enhanced by two huge sofas, more than 55" deep Romano tells us, chosen from the Diesel collection by Moroso. Being the first in the Columbus range from the mighty Palumbo Group, we look forward to inspecting her fully on launching. In keeping with the environmentally responsible ethos of the lightweight hybrid yacht, Hot Lab has revealed that where possible environmentally sustainable materials will be used in the interior.

Yacht ISA's 41m Classic series: Models in ISA's Classic range run from the 41m, through 50m, 60m and 63m, right up to a 74m design, with each exhibiting generous volumes. Indeed the 41m specifications show an estimated gross tonnage of 355 GT, which will serve her well in a competitive sector of the market. ISA's own team studied the naval architecture and interior design for the 41m Classic in-house, while the exterior styling was contributed from the Rome-based studio of Andrea Vallicelli.

Yacht ISA's 41m Classic series: The design shows a curve of tinted glass picture windows at the transom, hinting at an attractive beach club area to supplement the semicircular sunpad serving the cockpit above. This positions the tender on the aft terrace of the upper salon, but plenty of exterior entertainment space remains thanks to a generous flybridge, complete with Jacuzzi. The owner's stateroom is on deck and makes full use of the 27'6" beam of wide-body format, while four guest cabins on the lower deck brings accommodation up to ten in double occupancy mode.

Yacht ISA's 41m Classic series: With her inoffensive styling, surfeit of exterior and interior space and full displacement efficiency, on would expect the 41m Classic to be a hit on the charter market, and if this is the case, guests can enjoy the attention of six crewmembers, plus the captain. Powered by twin CAT C-18 engines to achieve a top speed of 14.5 knots (or 16 knots with the more powerful alternatives of twin C-32s), the 41m Classic carries almost 16,000 US Gal of fuel. Scheduled for delivery during the summer this year, the 41m Classic is expected to make her debut at the Monaco Yacht Show in September.
