Protecting Football Players Using The Right Quarterback Shoulder Pads

By Teri Farley

Football is quite a volatile game; anything can happen at any time and to anyone. There are infrequent bouts of violence from time to time that may lead to serious player injuries. There is nowhere that the danger of getting injured becomes heightened than for the players playing quarterback. Their role demands for lighter protective gear and that is where quarterback shoulder pads comes in. The best one will not only offer the player protection against injuries, but will also add to their mobility and comfort during the entire duration of the game.

Football managers and their players will tell you that there is a gaping difference in modifications available for sports equipment for various positions of the players. For the quarterbacks, who are constantly on the move, lighter shoulder protectors are recommended. Their lightness is actually more often 40% less than that in the shoulder pads of other players.

The padding worn by quarterbacks and running backs are similar. The running back's equipment is also lightweight, and allows for good movement. The quarterback, however, must have the ability to accurately throw the ball, and this is where the running back's equipment could be debilitating. Both garments will offer maximum protection from assault.

The alternative to the running backs equipment would be to go for the pads used by defensive backs. The defensive backs position is a lot more similar to the quarterback's position in that it requires speed and agility. Their protective gears are thus made light and comfortable. Additionally, those used by defensive backs are made to withstand maximal crush and thus offer more protection.

Football players may require additional equipment as well, for further protection against the battering of others in the game. Various garments are made specifically to shield the rib cage area of the body. This type of padding is extremely beneficial in protecting its wearer against scrapes and bruises, as well as broken ribs, which could be quite detrimental to the well-being of the player. The garment should fit nicely, without being too constrictive.

Certain types of players have an even greater need for protection. They could be those with less experience, or those who are still young, with bones that are more susceptible to breaks and other injuries. The supporting equipment of football athletes should never be too large, as it will be dislodged.

The most important thing to remember when choosing player gear is that player safety is the imperative. This is especially true for younger players that may be more prone to injury and will need more protection. Players should never put themselves at risk by using equipment that is the wrong size or does not work well with their style of play.

There are more and more factors that you should put into consideration when choosing quarterback shoulder pads. But ideally, if it allows the player movement and agility, doesn't hurt or pinch and offers maximal protection, then you should probably invest in it. The right protective gear adds to the whole invigorating experience of playing football.
