Houston museums of various types of art and sciences, children's museums and museums that focus on a range of serious areas of our history are all found within the Houston Museum District. The great part about these Houston museums is that many of them are free to go visit!

Houston museums are thought to be some of the best museums in the United States. Houston, being the biggest metropolitan in the great state of Texas, has a wide selection of museums that appeal to both adults and children alike. There are very few other locations in Texas that museum lovers can visit this quantity of museums that are situated in a single place.

American Cowboy Museum

For those that have a special place in their heart for Native American history, the American Cowboy Museum is the place to be. Here, this museum dedicates itself to our western heritages and that of the native American people who were first to live and thrive on American soil. Everyday the American Cowboy Museum features lecturers wearing native American garments, informing patrons about the history of their American forefathers. If you used to be a part of the generation that used to like playing cowboys and Indians, then you will really appreciate this museum.

Children's Museum of Houston

Take your tiny ones to one of the largest children's museum in the world. Over 90,000 square feet constitute the unique Children's Museum of Houston. This immense museum features diverse areas devoted to aid in the educational process by making it a laugh and fascinating for your kid. The Children's Museum of Houston has everything from challenging interactive areas to areas that focus principally on teaching youngsters in green subjects such as energy conservation and water power.

The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and The Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens

If your interests include various forms of art, one of the best museums in Houston to visit is the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, and the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens. These museums feature both national and international art, some of which is artwork from the last 40 years. A lot of the art is created by artists who otherwise wouldn't ever have been recognized otherwise. Take a little bit of time to see what many have missed.

Houston Museum of Natural Science

One of the nations most visited and one of the most heavily visited museums in Houston is the Museum of Natural Science. This is certainly at the forefront of the list of have to see attractions when talking of Museums in Houston. Here you may tour features like an observatory, a planetarium and an IMAX theater. The Houston Museum of Natural Science offers free general admission on Tuesdays after 2:00 PM.
